CLAW BBQ Shack & Grill – Review

I love writing the little updates at the start of every post. I feel like you get to know me a bit more and I also get to know me a bit more. Right now, I’d love to delve into what I’ve been up to and why I haven’t been a better blogger but I am squeezing this post in  meetings and I don’t think I could say everything I wanted to say within this timeframe so let’s just talk CLAW.

One of my favorite people in the world was due for a month long trip away from Dubai so we decided to meet up for a goodbye meal at CLAW. This wasn’t my first time at CLAW so I knew not to expect frills and fuss, besides we weren’t looking to get all emotional about her imminent departure so it was perfect.

As always CLAW was quite packed, a lot of people seem to be really into unpretentious dinning (Dubai Restaurants take note) On arrival, we were seated in a booth opposite the bar. The tables were covered in gingham, and if gingham doesn’t say IDGAF I don’t know what does. The American dinner style theme permeates through everything from the neon filled décor to the cheerful waiters. It was actually quite interesting (for lack of a better word) to see of one the staff attending to the tables was pregnant. I hope this gives you an idea of the overall chill vibe. I liked it.

To be honest most of the menu is quite heavy with lots of fried and battered things but what does one expect form an American style diner? Fit Foodies please forgive me as I go on to confess my sinful indulgence of the night.

We started with a serving of onion rings; these rings were the thickest I’ve ever had. The thick crunchy batter coating the sweet onion center had me questioning why I stopped eating fried foods.

DeluxeSeafoodSteamer_UseAlongside the onion rings we had some of the famous Buffalo jumbo Shrimp, which was a welcome, change from the usual Buffalo chicken wings.

Throughout the night we nursed on a pitcher of frozen margarita, it was a wonder we walked and not crawled out of there. Our meal progressed quite amicably, the crowd filled in and the music was thumping. After the mains, I was determined to pass on dessert and save some of my “Fit Foodie” image but after urging from the waiter, we decided to indulge in the cheesecake.

I expected desert to follow in the decadent fashion of our previous dishes but I found it a tad underwhelming. The filling wasn’t quite as creamy as I’d have liked, the crust was a bit too dry. Bleh. Regardless, I did have quite a good time there, very refreshing from the uppity Dubai crowd.

It is definitely a great spot for “non-serious” outings. In fact they have just launched a new Ladies night called “My Cowboy Is Out Of Town” happening every Wednesday. Ladies can enjoy a free flow of flavoured daiquiris and if you wear a Cowboy hat you get free shots too. Their resident DJ will be also be jamming “diva music” all night long, think Madonna and Cyndi Lauper from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. Yes, I definitely see myself there.

Have you been to CLAW? I’d love to know what your experience was like. If you haven’t been to CLAW, you can find full information about them below.
