DFF’s 48 Hour Detox Plan

Dear fit foodie,

I’m not the type to regret having cheat days, because I believe balance is the key to a successful fitness regimen, however having spent the last two weeks “holidaying” as hard as I did, I can’t help but feel sorry for myself. I’m surprised I’m not ill to be honest, because I pretty much broke every “fitfam” rule there is. This is why I immediately began a 48 hour juice detox when I got back to Dubai using my Pure juice pro from Kenwood. I absolutely love this juicer! One of my favorite things is that fact that I don't need to chop my veggies before feeding them into the juicer, which cuts my prep time in half. It is also designed to extract every bit of goodness from even the most fibrous fruits and vegetables, giving you more juice per fruit. Additionally, It preserves all the nutrients so that your juice looks better, lasts longer and tastes amazing.

The subject is of doing a juice detox is a sensitive one. While many advocate its benefits and advantages, and a lot are of the opinion that they are unnecessary and potentially harmful. In my opinion and experience, juicing is one of the best things you can do for you body, however you need to ensure that you do it in a controlled and healthy manner. The benefits of juice detoxing include but are not limited to:

Promoting maximum detoxification: Our body natural detoxes itself but by supporting our bodies with concentrated nutrient dense juice, filled with anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatories, we allow the body to have more of the resources it needs to support the phases of detoxification, leading to a cleaner healthier system.

Resting the digestive system:  Digesting juice does’t require churning or the production of stomach acid, which gives our digestive system a break. Remember to gently chew the juices to add oral enzymes to further ease digestion.

Reducing appetite: Disciplined juicing helps you feel full with less food than usual, thus cutting out excessive eating habits.

Providing super nutrition: By consuming raw fresh juices, you consume and retain high quantities of nutrients that would be destroyed by cooking. It also provides the body with essential vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients which aid the healing process.

Hydrating the body: Hydration is one of the keys to a healthy system. Juices are typically high in water to help nourish your cells. 

 

However you need to note the following things:

  1. Juicing fasting for weight loss is not sustainable as the weight you lose while juice fasting is mostly water and lean mass, and not fat.Once you return to your normal eating habits, you'll almost certainly regain the weight you lost and possibly even more.
  2. Juice cannot give your body all the nutrient its needs, so I recommend juice fasting for a maximum of 72 hours to avoid any deficiencies. I personally find 48 hours to be a comfortable fasting period.
  3. Your juice should contain majority of vegetable in portion to fruits. During my detox, I juice my veggies and eat my fruits, because fruits contains a lot of sugar that can concentrate to unhealthy proportion in juice form. Eating fruits also introduces fiber which helps me stay fuller for longer.
  4. During the period of a juice fast, keep your workout to a bare minimum if any at all. You’ll most likely be consuming less than a 1000 calories, and you body will need to conserve its energy.

P.s If you feel lightheaded or on the verge of being unconscious, stop immediately and eat something, its just not that deep. 

DFF 48 Hour Detox Plan

Drink at least 12 glasses of bottled or filtered water each day

Avoid non-water beverages, including coffee and tea

Eat any type of fresh fruits (no frozen, dried, or canned fruits), preferably organic
 

DAY 2
Skin Flush Drink
1 glass warm water
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, opt
Juice of half a lemon
Sprinkle of cinnamon
*Stir ingredients into the water, mix throughly and drink immediately

Meal 1
1 medium Papaya, dress with lime

Meal 2
6 Dates

Meal 3
Carrot & Sweet Potato Juice
8 large carrots
4 oranges
1 small orange sweet potato
1/ 2 thumb sized chili
1 thumb sized turmeric
*Juice using the Kenwood Juice Pro, or juicer of your choice.


Meal 4
2 large Mangoes

Meal 5
 Beetroot Juice
 3 large Beetroot
1 lemon
1/ 2 thumb size ginger

DAY 1
Skin Flush Drink
1 glass warm water
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper, opt
Juice of half a lemon
Sprinkle of cinnamon
*Stir ingredients into the water, mix throughly and drink immediately

Meal 1
3 cups Watermelon, dressed with lime juice and a drizzle of honey

Meal 2
6 Dates

Meal 3
Green Detox Juice
3 cups kale
1 large cucumber
1 lemon
2 green apples
2 stalks celery
1/ 2 thumb size ginger
1 tsp Moringa powder, opt
*Juice using the Kenwood Juice Pro, or juicer of your choice

Meal 4
 2 cups Pineapple, sprinkle with cinnamon

Meal 5
 Beetroot Juice
 3 large Beetroot
1 lemon
1/ 2 thumb size ginger
